MADISON, NJ - A fatality has been confirmed by NJ Transit PD Wednesday night when a 72 year old male from Madison was struck by a NJ transit train at approximately 11:20p.m.

Madison police and fire departments were called to the scene but NJ Transit Police has jurisdiction and conducted the investigation.

"The train was Hoboken bound on the Morris and Essex line when a trespasser was struck by the train," said Lisa Torbic, Senior Public Information Officer.

"We use the term trespasser because they were in an area they were not supposed to be," she added.

The train train carried about 100 passengers and 3 crew members at the time.  There were no other injuries.
