West Orange Hockey Ties 6-6 against Millburn on Senior Night

WEST ORANGE, NJ—The West Orange High School Ice Hockey team's Senior Night at Codey Arena on February 12 brought renewed determination as the West Orange Ice hockey team came close to grabbing a win, leaving the rink with a 6-6 tie against Millburn. It also celebrated a hat trick by West Orange senior Alec Hill. 

Millburn’s John Bergeron secured the first goal of the game. Another goal by Millburn's Matt Cohen, assisted by James Nitti, followed. Milburn kept pressure on the West Orange goalie, Luke  Starbinski, who successfully blocked and defended the Mountaineers.

Following the goal made by Bergeron, West Orange put pressure on Millburn, moving the puck up the ice to their goal, and West Orange's Alec Hill scored with an assist by Jonathan Miller.

The action continued as Millburn scored on a goal by David Raczkowski assisted by Matt Cohen and Harris Goldstein. The back and forth on the ice continued with Millburn's Cohen scoring with an assist by Dominick DeLeone.

The exciting first period ended with a power play and goal from West Orange's Miller with .55 seconds left, assisted by Hill and Nick Aloi. The first period ended 4-2.        

 West Orange had the upper hand in the second period, keeping continuous pressure on the goal. Millburn made several shots on goal, but Tyler Viezel, Chris Hanley, and Jonathan Miller kept the puck away from the West Orange net. Hill and Aloi scored the only two goals during the second period, tying the score 4-4.

After two minutes in the third period, both Millburn and West Orange scored on power plays. Millburn's James Nitti (with Dominick DeLeone and Matt Cohen) and West Orange's Miller (with Hanley and Hill) brought the score to a tie at 5-5. Both teams fought to break the tie, and West Orange’s Alec Hill scored with a power play assisted by Elijah Roberts and Miller with only 53 seconds left on the clock to put the Mountaineers in the lead 6-5.

After scoring his third goal of the game, Alec Hill also earned an impressive hat trick.

With only 2.3 seconds remaining in the third period, Millburn's Max Lechtman, assisted by Trevor Stack, tied the game at 6-6.

After the game, the Mountaineers celebrated their Senior Night, with appreciative words from both fans and players. Seniors Chris Hanley, Clarissa Ford (Manager), Dan Duarte, Jonathan Miller, Alec Hill, Elijah Roberts, Allan Morancie, Max Gomes, and Jordan Williams, received recognition for their talent and commitment.

West Orange is set to play Gov. Livingston on Feb. 12.
