LITTLE FALLS, NJ - On Tuesday, March 17, West Orange beat Millburn in overtime, 5-4, to win the Floyd Hall Middle School Fall Hockey League Championship, which was held at the rink in Little Fallls.
West Orange was trailing by two goals late in the third period. With nine minutes left, Coach Eddie Scafidi watched his team put in two goals to tie up the game, 4-4, with under a minute left. Next, West Orange found the back of the net in the first minute of overtime giving them the win and the championship, 5-4.
"It may not have been be the Stanley Cup, but it may just have been the first step to getting there," said Mountain Top League President Brad Palent.
"Everyone was on the edge of their seats watching the clock at the end of the third period," said Scafidi. "I knew they had it in them to pull out the win. I'm so proud of each and every one of them."
"What an amazing finish to the season," said Palent. "These are the future hockey stars here in West Orange and beyond. I'm so proud to be part of it and couldn't be happier with the result!"
