When a friend or family member dies by suicide, it is hard to talk about it. The grief process is different than when someone dies from an illness or as an older adult. Suicide prevention is also an important topic to talk about. As part of a series of classes on "Difficult Topics," Willow Grove Presbyterian Church is offering two Adult Forum classes to begin some conversations at the Adult Forums on Sundays at 11:30 am.
On April 14, the Adult Forum will be "Support for Suicide Survivors." Family and friends of those who died by suicide are invited to share stories and needs for support. Anyone interested in ways to be helpful after a suicide is invited to be part of the conversation. A speaker from a local suicide prevention and grief counseling organization will help lead the discussion.
On April 21, the focus of the Forum will be "Suicide Prevention - Recognizing Signs and What To Do." What are some of the warning signs of suicide? What do we do if we are concerned about someone? What are the resources for helping young people and adults with depression and other mental illness? Guest speaker from suicide prevention organization will lead the class.
The Adult Forums are free and are held at 11:30 am after the 10:00 am worship service in Kiep Lounge. Willow Grove Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) is located in Scotch Plains at 1961 Raritan Road, across the street from the Scotch Plains Southside Firehouse and Southside Soccer Field, and near the corner of South Martine Avenue.
