NEWARK, NJ – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating relatives of Gilbert Garcia, a/k/a Geovanny Gonzales, who died on Friday, June 22, 2018 after being assaulted in Newark. Garcia was attacked on Raymond Boulevard near Penn Station in the early morning hours of June 22. He was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that day at approximately 9:00 pm.
Detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force are attempting to locate any relatives for Garcia. The victim, who was homeless, was known to frequent the area of Penn Station and Riverbank Park in Newark, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly.
