MILLBURN, NJ - The Education Foundation of Millburn-Short Hills is excited to announce that Millburn Schools Rock, its biggest fundraiser of the year, will take place on Friday, March 15th at 7:30pm. At the 10thannual event, hosted by the Ed Foundation and presenting sponsor Simon Westfall-Kwong Group of Keller Williams Realty, guests will enjoy dining, entertainment, dancing, auction and raffles. This year’s theme, Denim & Diamonds, promises a more casual evening – but with all glitz that attendees have come to expect from the party.
The event will be held at the recently renovated Crystal Plaza in Livingston. The evening’s menu includes passed hors d’oeuvres, carving and buffet stations, as well as decadent desserts. “In addition to being a beautiful venue, Crystal Plaza is well-known for having incredible food. We are very lucky to be able to host our event here,” said Millburn Schools Rock Planning Committee member, Nadia Halim.
Music will be front and center thanks to talented local performers. The headliner band, Cats Will Play, is a local rock/reggae/funk/blues band that closed out the Ed Foundation’s Rocktoberfest in September to much acclaim. Also performing are Soulfege A Cappella, Millburn High Schools award-winning a cappella group, and School of Rock Street Team House Band, featuring Millburn High School and Millburn Middle School students.
In addition to live music, the Ed Foundation is thrilled that local Millburn parent, Derek Hicks, will DJ the event. “By adding a DJ to our line up, we hope to get even more people out on the dance floor,” said Joanna Parker-Lentz, another member of the Planning Committee. “We are excited to have Derek help us keep the party going!”
As always, the night will include fabulous raffle baskets and auction items. Beyond ‘priceless’ special experience auction items from all of the schools, there will designer items, event tickets and once-in-a-lifetime experience packages.
Over the past 25 years, the Ed Foundation has donated over $3 million to Millburn’s eight schools. The Ed Foundation began in 1993 when a group of parents recognized the need for additional outside funds to enhance the programs in each of the district schools. The need for outside funds continues, as caps on property taxes and rising fixed costs continue to be a challenge for the district budget.
The Ed Foundation’s mission is to enrich the educational experience of students by providing innovative and progressive programs and state of the art equipment that the district budget would not be able to support. Since 2015, the Ed Foundation has donated to over $675,000 to Millburn Schools in grants for the purchase of technology equipment, funding for science, technology, engineering, math and art programs and to create 21st century learning spaces.
Millburn Superintendent, Dr. Christine Burton applauds the Ed Foundation on its commitment to Millburn Schools. “The Ed Foundation continues to be an incredibly dedicated partner to the Millburn school district. In addition to being instrumental in providing all of our schools with state-of-the-art technology upgrades, such as audio equipment and computers and grants for classroom projects, the Ed Foundation has also helped us offer important programming, such as January's screening of Angst.”
The Ed Foundation raises funds from individual donations and corporate sponsorshipsas well as its fundraising events, such as Rocktoberfest and FilmFest. Its largest fundraiser of the year, though, is Millburn Schools Rock. “Millburn Schools Rock is a wonderful night for our community to come out and celebrate all that is great about Millburn Schools,” said Ed Foundation president, Simon Westfall Kwong. “We always appreciate the support we receive from friends and neighbors who care as much about Millburn Schools as we do.”
The Ed Foundation is thankful to its sponsors: at the All Star level - The Marcus Family Foundation; at the Rock Star level sponsors: Coldwell Banker, Elite Learning and Sacks Orthodontics. Millburn Schools Rock is still accepting directory advertisements (deadline February 28) and sponsorships. Please email MSRsponsorships@gmail.comto make a donation or with any questions.
