The Millburn Free Public Library recently installed new public internet computers library-wide, including a new print release station and document scanner in the adult reference room. The upgrade is part of an ongoing technology refresh and helps the library meet its goal of providing up-to-date computers and resources for connectivity, creativity and exploration.
The new computers have solid state hard drives for greater speed and reliability. The library decided to move away from all-in-one touchscreen computers and go with separate components because they are easier to maintain and are a better value. The PCs have been in place since late January and the reviews have been excellent. Everyone notices a vast improvement in performance.
In total, there are 19 new public internet access computers: 14 in the adult reference area; 2 in the young adult area; and 3 in the children’s room.
In addition to the new computers, the library also upgraded its print release station in the adult reference area and added a new flatbed scanner to the public network. Scanning can be done at no cost unless you print out what you scan. The library offers both black & white and color printing for a small cost per page. Wireless printing is also available through a service called PrinterOn. You can even send print jobs to the library from anywhere. More information about wireless printing can be found on the library’s homepage: www.millburnlibrary.org.
