When Charles Carlisle, Jr. began working at Atlantic Health System, gas was $.35 a gallon, the minimum wage was $1.60, and “Sesame Street” made its debut on PBS. It was 1969. This October, Charles, a sterile processing technician at Overlook Medical Center, is celebrating his 50th year with the award-winning health care system.

“When I first joined, I didn’t realize I would be here for 50 years, but every day, I work next to amazing coworkers who feel like family,” said Charles. “I’ve seen a lot of changes through the years, but one thing that remains the same is everyone’s dedication to our patients and I’m proud to work at Atlantic Health System.”

Charles, and more than 1,100 Atlantic Health team members reaching milestone anniversaries in 2019 (every five years from 10-50 years) were honored at the company’s annual “Celebrating Service” event, held at the Venetian in Garfield. Together, they have more than 21,335 years of combined service.
