One River School of Art + Design Summer Camp (August 13 - August 17)

Learn to Draw Realistically | 3rd - 5th Grade | 9:30 - 12

Still life, landscape, and the figure serve as the best subjects for developing foundational drawing skills. The goal of this class is to give students the tools to translate what they see in their own art. Students leave with a portfolio of drawings showcasing their progress, as well as a toolkit of drawing skills that they can exercise for years to come.

 

Picasso's Guitars | k - 2nd Grade | 12:30 - 3

Students will create their own 3D and 2D musical instruments using Picasso’s Guitars as inspiration.  Students will explore techniques in found object sculpture and collage as well as explore stylistic elements of Cubism and abstraction.

 

Oil Paining: Secrets from the Masters | 6th - 12th Grade | 9:30 - 12

In this class, students will learn the complex composition and painting secrets of artists such as Botticelli, Rembrandt and Vermeer.  Projects will include color value studies, underpainting, natural illumination, fine detail as well as how to use glazes and varnishes. Students will create multiple studies for a final oil painting of their own choice in subject matter, however completed using the rediscovered craftsmanship of the Old Masters. 

 

Figure Drawing and Portraiture | 6th - 12th Grade | 12:30 - 3

What is the best way to improve your figure drawings? Learn and practice drawing the anatomy of the human figure, from muscles to the skeletal structure. Students will work intensely in drawing the body from multiple angles and positions while also exploring line quality and tone.

 

Digital Painting: SciFi Edition | 6th - 12th Grade | 9:30 - 12

Zombies, aliens, robots, vampires, artificial intelligence, and more! This course will challenge students to imagine and create the fantastical beings of worlds beyond!  We will create digital paintings and novel illustrations using the latest digital painting software- including Sketchbook Pro, Photoshop and Wacom. Students will look at and study closely the illustrations of Michael Whelan, Frank Freas and Hal Hickel.

 

Movie Making | 3rd - 5th Grade | 12:30 - 3

Young filmmakers and animators can take their skills to the next level in this course by learning how to stage, shoot and edit their own movies.  Students will use digital cameras and iMovie to create their own original movies that tell their story.  Instructors will guide students through all the challenges young filmmakers face – from creating a dynamic plot to the interview process.  The course will end with One River’s short film screening – where students and parents will join us to view our artists films. Students are required to bring their own digital camera to camp.

Mary Patricia Colicchio of Millburn Passes Away at Age 56

August 11, 2018

MILLBURN, NJ - Mary Patricia Colicchio, who taught history and film studies at Summit High School since 2003, passed away August 4 at the age of 56. She had been battling pancreatic cancer since being diagnosed in August of 2017.
