One River School of Art + Design Summer Camp (August 20 - August 24)

Watercolor Underworlds | k - 2nd Grade | 9:30 - 12

Explore underwater creatures from the familiar sea turtle to the exotic vampire squid. Students will be exposed to a variety of seascapes and their inhabitants, which will become the main source of inspiration for these projects. Students will have the available platform to be creative, in addition to expanding their technical skills in watercolor painting.  

 

Printing for Apparel Design | 3rd - 5th Grade | 12:30 - 3

Fuse the world of fashion and art through this class, creating original t-shirt designs. Students practice technical aspects of design such as composition and pattern, while cultivating their originality through conceptual thinking. Students will borrow inspiration from today’s trends to create designs that demonstrate their individual tastes and styles.

 

Street Art Painting | 6th - 12th Grade | 9:30 - 12

The recent street-art movement marked by artists like Banksy has placed graffiti on the map and grown to be an accepted creative outlet. In this course young students will study graffiti as a base for making their own street-art paintings. Students will work on large-scale wood panels using acrylic spray paint.  

 

Sculpting with Clay | 6th - 12th Grade | 12:30 - 3

From high and low relief sculpture to free standing sculpture in the round, students will learn the diverse styles and methods of working with the versatile medium of clay. Through the processes of experimenting and working with clay, students will learn fundamental sculpting techniques, and demonstrate their understanding of three-dimensional art making.

 

Short Film Production | 6th - 12th Grade | 9:30 - 12

This intensive course will allow students to immerse themselves in all aspects of film concept, production and editing. Students will work in collaboratively to create a film for which they will develop a narrative, arrange, and shoot footage.  Students will then bring their work into the digital studio where they will edit their footage for a final short film.  

 

3D Toy Design | 6th - 12th Grade | 12:30 - 3

Students will create digital 3 dimensional models of their own prototype toy designs. Teachers will teach students how to use 3D modeling software while helping them to think about the importance of their product’s look, feel, texture and functionality. We will draw inspiration for our unique toy designs from designers from the past and present, looking at trends amongst designers and toy makers.

Mary Patricia Colicchio of Millburn Passes Away at Age 56

August 11, 2018

MILLBURN, NJ - Mary Patricia Colicchio, who taught history and film studies at Summit High School since 2003, passed away August 4 at the age of 56. She had been battling pancreatic cancer since being diagnosed in August of 2017.
