One River School of Art + Design Summer Camp (July 16 - July 20)

Jungle Creations | k - 2nd | 9:30 - 12

Explore leopards, parrots, chimpanzees, and more in this class where students take an exciting approach in learning about three-dimensional art. Students will be able to create not only sculptural works of art, but ones with wearability and durability through functioning headdresses, capes and masks.

 

Street Art Painting | 3rd - 5th Grade | 12:30 - 3

The recent street-art movement marked by artists like Banksy has placed graffiti on the map and grown to be an accepted creative outlet. In this course young students will study graffiti as a base for making their own street-art paintings. Students will work on large-scale wood panels using acrylic spray paint.  

 

Pen & Ink Illustration | 6th - 12th Grade | 12:30 - 3

Explore the field of illustration from a new frame of reference. Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge and proficiency with the pen and ink drawing medium. They will explore various concepts of pen and ink illustration such as exhibiting depth of space, communicating a narrative, and many shading techniques including crosshatching and stippling.

 

Botanic Watercolor Painting | 6th - 12th Grade | 12:30 - 3

Translucent orchids, fragrant roses and blooming tulips – this course will examine botanical life by creating a series of intricate watercolor paintings. Instructors will demonstrate watercolor techniques using washes, glazes, wet in wet, dry brush, pen/ink and adding in substances salt, alcohol and other substances that create magical textures and patterns.

 

Digital Inventions | 3rd - 5th Grade | 9:30 - 12

Self driving cars, hoverboards and 3D printers were all once just a dreamed up concept on paper. Today they are part of our everyday lives.  In this camp students will learn how to use 3D modeling software to create their own inventions.  We will explore modeling concepts, look at modern design elements and attempt to solve some of the everyday problems by creating new tools for the future.

 

Architectural Design | 6th - 12th Grade | 12:30 - 3 

Students will explore architectural design principles including issues of form, tectonics, structure, energy, and urban relationships.  The course will use SketchUp, a 3-D modeling program that will allow students to design and draft their own building.

National Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory thru Sunday for Millburn Township

MILLBURN, NJ —  A heat wave rolling into the area is expected to last through Sunday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) calling for a heat advisory for Millburn Township through 12:00 pm Sunday. However, an excessive heat watch runs through Monday evening.

On June 19, 2018 Millburn Police Officer Crawn responded to Neiman Marcus on a theft report. Neiman Marcus personnel report a black male wearing a red hat, black winter coat, and tan backpack concealed 2 pairs of headphones valued at $498.00 in his backpack and left the store without making payment. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
