Drawing From Nature | k - 2nd Grade | 9:30 - 12

Artists from Claude Monet to contemporary artist Andy Goldsworthy have used nature as their main inspiration throughout their art making processes. The concept of nature in art can range from observational drawing to incorporating physical elements of nature to onsite installation.

 

Learn to Draw Realistically | 3rd - 5th Grade | 12:30 - 3

Still life, landscape, and the figure serve as the best subjects for developing foundational drawing skills. The goal of this class is to give students the tools to translate what they see in their own art. Students leave with a portfolio of drawings showcasing their progress, as well as a toolkit of drawing skills that they can exercise for years to come.

 

Film Noir Charcoal Drawing | 6th - 12th Grade | 9:30 - 12

Venetian blinds, high contrast, and romance characterize the melodramatic genre of film noir. This class centers on this movement in Hollywood that dominated cinema in the 1940s. Choosing a still image from a film noir, students will create representational paintings and drawings packed with drama and suspense.

 

Oil Painting: Secrets from the Masters | 6th - 12th Grade | 12:30 - 3

In this class, students will learn the complex composition and painting secrets of artists such as Botticelli, Rembrandt and Vermeer.  Projects will include color value studies, underpainting, natural illumination, fine detail as well as how to use glazes and varnishes. Students will create multiple studies for a final oil painting of their own choice in subject matter, however completed using the rediscovered craftsmanship of the Old Masters.  

 

Character Animation | 6th - 12th Grade | 9:30 - 12

This course covers the basics of how to create and manipulate digital characters using Adobe Flash.  Those interested in computers and digital drawing can take this class to learn how to creatively produce digital animation. The group will create characters, storylines and streaming cartoons.  At the end of the course, students will have produced an original short animation.

 

Documentary Filmmaking | 6th - 12th Grade | 12:30 - 3 

This intensive course will allow students to immerse themselves in all aspects of film concept, production and editing.  Students will work in small groups to create a documentary for which they will develop a narrative, arrange interviews and shoot footage.  Students will then bring their work into the digital studio where they will edit their documentaries for a final short film.
