Paint, Petrol and The Promised Land: Downtown Summit Hosts 'Arts + Cars' Event Sept. 17; B Street Band Headlines Music Stage

A classic car show, a juried art exhibition and sale, and a slew of musical performances highlight a festivity-packed day in downtown Summit September 17.

SUMMIT, NJ - It's an event mash-up with something for the entire family, no matter one's activity palate or palette. 

The Hilltop City's downtown will be buzzing with a cornucopia of goings-on when Summit Downtown, Inc., the Summit Police Athletic League (PAL) and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey (VACNJ) team up to hosts 'Arts + Cars' September 17, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. 'Arts + Cars' will feature a juried art show -- with art and crafts for sale -- along with the Summit PAL Classic Car Show.

Throw in a set by 'The B Street Band' as well as other performers, along with a variety of children’s activities, and attendees are in for one 'boss' day.

The al fresco Summit Downtown Art Festival will be located on Springfield Avenue, between Maple Street and Summit Avenue, and is being co-organized by the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. Meanwhile, hundreds of classic cars will be displayed on Union Place, Bank Street, and lower Beechwood Road.

Children’s Activities will be provided by the Summit YMCA and Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre along with other local non-profits on Springfield Avenue, and the Summit Farmers Market will be open at 22 DeForest Avenue, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

On the Regal Bank Music Stage, located on upper Beechwood Road, the following performances will take place:

Performances from New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble (NJDTE) - 9 - 10 a.m.

The Baby Please - 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

An alternative rock cover band from Maplewood, The Baby Please play an eclectic mix of 70s SoCal Rock, 'alt country', and '90s alt rock' with a set list spanning from the Eagles and Neil Young to Ryan Adams, The Cure, and Coldplay.

The B Street Band - 1 - 3 p.m.

'The B Street Band' is the preeminent Bruce Springsteen cover band.

Traffic Stops Lead to Multiple Arrests

On September 5, 2017 Millburn Police Lieutenant Ronceray stopped a 2006 Ford Pickup when the owner, 50 year old John Heatter out of Lyndhurst, was found to be driving with a suspended license and for an outstanding traffic warrant out of Clifton. Mr. Heatter was placed under arrest and issued a summons for driving while suspended. Mr. Heatter was released with a new court date.
