UPDATE: The article was published yesterday evening, before it was determined that the event would be postponed due to rain.

The event will still go on, and will be held Aug. 17.

MILLBURN, NJ - On Aug. 17, a new summer event  is going to be held in downtown Millburn, called “Meet the Merchants.” More than the food, the music, and the activities that can be found at most town parties, this one is about thanking the proprietors for shopping locally.

“Meet the faces behind your favorite stores” is the guiding motto. The participating merchants want to open up the conversation with their customers in a block party-style atmosphere, with the free food truck and mega raffle prize as a bonus.

The eight participating stores are as follows: The Book House, Tame Salon, Anthisi, Starbucks, EyeQ Opticians, Liv Breads, Green Nectar Juicery, and the Squirrel and the Bee.

The event will run from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Nadege Nicoll from The Book House and Andy Cooper from Tame Salon first came up with the idea to host the event at Nicoll’s store. TAPinto interviewed both of them to better understand both why this event is so important to them and why it is worth all their efforts:

TAPinto: How did you come up with the idea for the Meet the Merchants event?

NN: Andy and I have been talking for a while about getting the community together to create connections. What best way to do that but organize a party?

AC: Nadege and I wanted to get involved in the community. We wanted to show our appreciation for those that shop local in Millburn.

TAPinto: What made you two want to organize the event by yourselves?

NN: This event is about merchants celebrating their community, thanking customers for their support.

AC: I think taking initiative is super important. People plant seeds every day but to actually cultivate and see something grow into fruition is important to me.

TAPinto: What was the process for choosing the other merchants participating?

NN: We reached out to all Millburn merchants in town. It was an interesting process as I had no idea there were that many stores in town. This community is truly full of amazing places.

AC: We reached out to every merchant in Millburn/Short Hills. All we needed was a few to believe in the vision. We were amazed with the outcome.

TAPinto: Out of all the activities planned on the day of, which are you most looking forward to?

NN: The event is designed to get the community to interact and get to know the store owners (I won’t say more!) So I am really looking forward to meeting new people.

AC: I’m so excited for the food truck. Pizza Vita is an amazing restaurant and food truck. Best pizza around.

5. The event is about thanking all the people who shop locally at Millburn, but why did you guys choose Millburn as the location for your businesses, in the first place?

NN: I have lived in this town for over a decade. This is home.

AC: When I wanted to open my salon I chose Millburn because I loved the town. The downtown is so well known and dynamic. I’m excited to see how it evolves and grows with the ever-changing market.

The event will be held at The Book House, located at 281 Essex St., Millburn, NJ 07041
