SHORT HILLS, NJ - The SAM Program (Students After-school in Millburn) is a nonprofit, after school enrichment and child care program providing a nurturing and safe environment for Millburn Township’s kindergarten through middle school-aged children.
The program provides transportation from township schools (Millburn Middle School, Washington School, Wyoming, South Mountain, Hartshorn, Deerfield) to Glenwood Elementary School in Short Hills. Upon arrival, a director, certified teachers and teacher assistants greet students. There is approximately one adult for every 5-6 students.
Students can choose from a wide variety of activities like chess, gym, art, cooking, outdoor play, Legos, Playmobiles and the latest toys and games, all led by staff members skilled in each area. Homework is done, Monday through Friday, in small group classroom settings, with supervision and instruction led by certified educators. Students are also offered nutritious mini-meals daily that is made up of a fruit or vegetable, an “entre” such as cheese, yogurt, chicken or veggie nuggets or pasta and ending with a small dessert. Food allergies and sensitivities and other dietary restrictions are carefully monitored and no nut-based products are served.
The program also recognizes Millburn Township schools’ early dismissals and vacation days, presenting comprehensive, enriching and fun field trips, which include transportation and all meals.
Founded in 1995, S.A.M. is a nonprofit organization created from the collaboration of parents, teachers, Millburn PTOs and the Millburn Board of Education to assist parents in after school child care.
The program is flexible to meet the needs of both students and parents. Though the majority of the students are enrolled on an on-going basis, occasional, short-term and drop-in usage is available. Arrangements can be made on very short notice if needed. Schedules can be modified throughout the year with no extra charges.
The S.A.M. Program invites Millburn Township parents to the Open House. This is an opportunity to meet the staff and teachers, discuss curriculum options and allow children to experience the program. You may also send your child for an afternoon as SAM’s guest, free of charge.
The Open House begins on Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14 from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. We invite you and your family to experience what Millburn families have enjoyed for nearly 25 years.
