In the latest regular update to the township residents Millburn Mayor Jackie Lieberberg announced the first death in town from COVID-19, also known as coronavirus.
"It is with great sadness that I inform you all of the Township’s first COVID-19 related death," Lieberberg said. "A resident in their 80s. Please keep this individual’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
"Although this news is sobering, we should use it to strengthen our resolve to continue doing the right thing as a community and avoid further loss of our residents."
Besides the one death, there are currently 56 cases of COVID-19 in Millburn Township. One of the cases required hospitalization and one patient has recovered. Essex County as a whole is reporting 3,031 cases throughout the county.
In testing news, Essex County officials announced that testing for COVID-19 will continue in Weequahic Park. Three additional dates have been scheduled for Monday, April 6; Wednesday, April 8 and Friday, April 10. Screenings are for Essex County residents only who are symptomatic of the Coronavirus and are by appointment only, which are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12 noon; with 250 tests available each day.
In order to access the testing facility, residents must arrive by car. To schedule an appointment, visit www.EssexCOVID.org. Once residents have reached the site, they will be required to answer a few questions to determine their eligibility.
If eligible, residents will be given a confirmation number that they must bring to their designated appointment. if residents do not have internet services, they may call 973-324-9950.
