MILLBURN, NJ - In recognition of their selection to various local, state, and regional ensembles, students at Millburn High School's music department were honored at the most recent Board of Education (BOE) meeting in the Millburn Ed. Center this past Monday.
The students were each mentioned by name, as their accomplishments were read off. Students in attendance were selected for a variety of different spots. The most prestigious among those was the Honors Performance High School Band. Milburn High School Seniors Ben Schonhorn on Bb clarinet, Steffen Kulp on french horn and Kyle Yang on the bassoon were all selected.
According to the website, the Honors Performance Series assembles some of the world’s rising young musicians to perform under the baton of master conductors at two of the world’s most celebrated concert halls: Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House.
Additionally, students were selected to the following categories:
At the All-Eastern level: Band, Orchestra and Chorus.
At the All-State level: Orchestra, Mixed Chorus, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Treble Chorus.
At the Region I level: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Chorus and Orchestra.
Millburn BOE president Alex Zaltsman said after the meeting that seeing the students honored was exciting for him, as it showcased what the school district is capable of doing.
"It shows our commitment to the arts and music," Zaltsman said. "And it's great to see so many students participate. It was just heartwarming."
