Sixteen Millburn High School Students Honored as National Merit Semifinalists

MILLBURN, NJ - Millburn High School Principal Dr. William Miron announced today that sixteen senior students from Millburn High School have been selected as Semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Competition.  They are Jai Bansal, Andrew Chen, Henry Chen, Noah Gottlieb, Alan Gu, Jennifer Guo, Audrey Laude, Jessica LI, Akshay Nagella, Theodoe Nyunt, Raghav Pant, Christopher Ren, Victoria Shi, Mehmen Sirtalan, Yicong Wu and Christine Yang

They are among 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide, a third of the 50,000 high scorers. Semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
