MILLBURN, NJ - At Monday night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board reviewed and discussed proposed calendars for the 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 school years.  The BOE Program Committee and the administration have been reviewing the calendars over the past few months to address several important concerns:

  • Providing enough professional development time for our staff
  • School days for standardized testing dates
  • Opening and closing dates, as well planning for 2-3 inclement weather days
  • Providing vacation time for families and relaxation/de-stress time for students
  • Anticipated absenteeism for religious and cultural observances. In in addition to those we have traditionally included, days have been added for Diwali and Lunar New Year.

To learn more about the process for designing school calendars, here is an explanation from BOE President Emily Jaffe.

You can review these draft calendars here.

Busing Information and Fundamentals

** Our acting transportation supervisor is going through all the issues that have been sent to us.  She and her staff are exploring short-term and long-term changes, and where possible making small fixes now. We know this process has taken time, and we truly appreciate your patience. Please know that we are working to find resolutions to your concerns. To contact the transportation department please continue emailing busing@millburn.org or call 973-564-7162. We have staff responding to emails and phone calls.

** Students are to be at their bus stop 10 minutes before the pick up time on the bus pass.

** At the end of the day, it takes anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes for buses to arrive, for students to be checked on to the buses and seated safely with seatbelts.

** Please be aware that buses may not actually begin their routes until at least 15 minutes after dismissal time. Adjust arrival expectations accordingly.

** Reimbursement for subscription busing for the first three weeks of school will be processed during the month of October.

** The new route bus passes were released through the PowerSchool Parent Portal last weekend.  The parent portal is now closed. If a change is made to your child’s bus stop/route or stop time, you will be contacted individually.  Going forward, the portal will only be used during the summer for yearly bus pass dissemination.  If you need a copy of your pass you may request it from your school office.
