MILLBURN, NJ - For a decade, Farm & Fork Society, a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture group), has been dedicated to building an integrated community comprised of their farmer partners and members who pre-purchase shares of organic/sustainable crops on an seasonal basis.
Serving residents of Millburn-Short Hills, Maplewood-South Orange, Summit, Livingston, West Orange and other surrounding towns, Farm & Fork Society offers vegetables, fruit, poultry, farm fresh eggs, pasta, cider, mushrooms and bread shares. The seasonal produce is literally farm-to-table, coming directly from the farmer and is picked up every Wednesday from June 7 through November 15 in the Wells-Fargo parking lot in downtown Millburn.
Members of the Farm & Fork Society purchase shares from Circle Brook Farm, Andover, NJ,Breezy Hill Orchard, Staatsburg, New York and Knoll Krest Farm, Clinton Corners, NY, The Foraged Feast in Maplewood, NJ, Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse in Milford, NJ and River Bend Farm in Peapack, NJ.
The group was started by Melissa Goldberg of Short Hills, NJ in 2008 after she and a gathering of local citizens got together with a common goal: to provide their families with healthy organic/sustainably grown produce sourced from local farmers. The first season began in the Goldberg’s family garage with 30 families and one farmer providing members with the freshest vegetables. Members picked their shares based on the honor system – which is still used today. Over the years, Farm & Fork Society outgrew the Goldberg garage, added offerings from additional farmers and now serves more than 100 local families becoming one of New Jersey’s largest and most diverse CSAs.
Farm & Fork Society believes in a system that connects small local farms and businesses directly to the community. The group is dedicated to the health of its members and supporting best environmental practices and all farmers’ partners pursue farming practices that are environmentally sustainable. Produce is either certified organic, organic stewardship, eco-farmed or sustainably grown. Animals products are raised without antibiotics and hormones and the farmers can trace back all the materials they use in their farming.
Farm & Fork Society understands the importance of fostering deep, meaningful relationships between their farmers and the communities they feed. Members are encouraged to meet thefarmers, visit the farms and see for themselves where their food comes from. The group continues to support the campaign Generation Zero: Working to Reduce Hunger in New Jersey. This program provides fresh produce from our farmers directly to local food banks.
