Project Description

NJ American Water’s contractor, J. Fletcher Creamer & Sons, will begin work the week of April 2 and continue through mid-May to replace utility-owned service lines from the company’s main in the street to the company shut off valve (generally located near the curb) along all or portions of the following streets:

  • Witkop Place
  • Rawley Place
  • Parkview Drive
  • Mountainview Road
  • South Mountain Road
  • Wyoming Avenue
  • Walnut Avenue
  • Myrtle Avenue.

Work hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule. Final street restoration will be completed in the fall.

Moving the Meter

Once the meter pit is installed, the meter serving your property will be moved from its current location inside your property to the meter pit. By doing this, we will no longer require access into your home to read, inspect, repair or replace the water meter in the future.

Access to the Meter

Once the meter pits are installed, and the entire project is complete, we’ll contact you set up an appointment to move the meter from inside the property to the meter pit. To perform this work, we’ll need to gain access to the existing water meter located inside your property, so we may relocate it to the new meter pit. There is no cost to you to have this work performed. The relocation of the meter should take approximately 20 - 30 minutes.

How to Prepare

To prepare for the removal of the meter from inside your property, we ask that you clear the area to the water meter for safe and easy access. During the process of the meter relocation the water service will be interrupted for a few minutes.

Traffic Flow and Accessibility

For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. New Jersey American Water’s inspector, along with the contractor’s personnel, will provide a minimum of 24 hour’s notice prior to any parking and/or driveway use restrictions. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.


As with any construction project, some noise will be unavoidable with this project. We apologize for any inconvenience, and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Restoration of Roads, Sidewalks, Curbs & Grass Areas

Temporary restoration work will be completed as the project progresses. Final lawn restoration will occur in the fall to 2018, and final paving will be completed after we clean and line main, as referenced below.

May 2018: Cleaning and Lining the Main

Beginning in May through September 2018, New Jersey American Water will be cleaning and lining 6,200 feet of water main in your area. Cleaning and lining is the process of removing sediment from inside a water main, then lining the inner surface of the main with a sealant. This procedure significantly improves the reliability of water service, water quality and fire flows in the area. We’ll provide you with further details next year as we get closer to starting the project.
