BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Bloomfield Boys Varsity Basketball got back in the win column in decisive fashion after a 48-28 victory over Millburn Millers on Thursday afternoon at Bloomfield High School.

After a heartbreaking 52-51 loss to Barringer on Tuesday, Bloomfield started slow Thursday in this Super Essex Conference - Liberty Division match-up against Millburn as the Millers out-hustled the Bengals to a 16-14 lead after the first quarter.

Bloomfield held Millburn to only 2 points again in the third quarter, outscoring the Millers 10-2 to lead 32-20 after three quarters.

The Bengals doubled-up Millburn 16-8 in the fourth quarter, as the final 20-point margin of victory for Bloomfield marked their biggest lead of the game.

“Millburn is young, scrappy, their coach does a really good job, they’re very well-schooled and they are really difficult to play against,” Coach Passero told TAP after the victory.  “They play a style you don’t see a lot – it’s a different game and it’s hard to adjust at times, but I think our kids did a good job of eventually adjusting as we played a little bit of zone at the end which slowed the pace of the game down giving Millburn 20 and 30-second possessions which was in our favor because even if they scored 2 points, our lead was already substantial.”

Meanwhile, Bloomfield Girls Varsity Basketball continued their strong play and defeated Millburn 51-44 on Thursday afternoon in a SEC Liberty Division contest at Millburn High School.

The Bengal girls improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the division.  Millburn falls to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the division.
