MILLBURN, NJ — Rolling over the momentum from their regular season-capping victory against West Essex, the Millburn Boys Soccer team came out of the gates on fire against the Mendham Minutemen.
Playing in the first game of the state playoff tournament, the Millers would get an early goal courtesy of Alex Migoya to go up 1-0. Migoya would add a second goal in the first half, and Ryan Garfinkle would also score to lead the Millers to a 3-0 win.
After the game, Migoya said that playing in the misting rain was no issue, and that the team was able to push forward and win.
"We're pretty familiar with Mendham," Migoya said. "We played them last year in even worse conditions and won in penalties. I definitely think it feels good for all of us to beat them, and actually play."
"It was a rocky start," he added. "But I think that we wanted it collectively and I think we deserved to win the way we played."
Millburn will now wait to see the results of the matchup between Colonia and Irvington. Should Colonia win, the game will be Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Colonia. An Irvington upset would see the Millers host another home game on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
