MILLBURN, NJ — The week of potential championship success for the Millburn Recreation Department travel teams continues on Friday, when the Millburn Sixth Grade Boys travel basketball team face off in the championship of the Suburban League versus undefeated West Orange.

Millburn is 12-3, with the #3 seed in the playoffs, and faced off against #2 seed Maplewood last week in the league semifinals. They quickly fell behind 31-14.

Led by their guard play of Luke Greenseid, Oliver Becker, Cassidy Berger, and Plotkin, the team stormed back to take tie the game at 37 going into the fourth quarter

During the forth quarter, the team's talented big men took over, as the tandem of Ben Teague and Kayden Akwaboah dominated around the basket, blocking every shot in sight, and rebounding every missed shot off the glass. Millburn finished off the comeback when Greenseid nailed several free throws late in the game to ice the win.

Along with the guard play, one of the key performers was Wade Schmell, whose tenacity and toughness was key in the comeback win along with Ryder Rabinowitz, and the entire team and coaching staff for never giving up on their goal of a championship.

The Suburban League finals will be played Friday night, Feb. 27, at Roosevelt Middle School, at 6:30, in West Orange, in what should be an intense and fun evening.

In their first and only matchup this year, West Orange beat Millburn 72-71 in double overtime last month, after Millburn held a 5 point lead in the first overtime, but could not hold on late.

Come out and support your Millburn Millers basketball team as they look to finish their season off with a championship trophy, and continue to make the history and the town and families involved proud.
