MILLBURN, NJ - Towards the beginning of the season, critics believed 2016-2017 would be tough on the Millburn boys basketball team with top tier teams such as Bloomfield, Verona, and Orange crowding the SEC - Colonial Division. Zach Ravitz, a three-year starter, helped lead Millburn to a 17-8 record and put the icing on his impressive Miller career.

Using a six and seven man rotation Coach Roger Blind relied on his starting five to contend with the new and improved competition. Zach Ravitz answered the call and led the team in points and rebounds with 16.9 and 9.0 per game, respectively. With his near double-double numbers, Ravitz spent most of the season fending off double and triple team defenses, especially in the paint.

Ravitz was able to dribble out of those trap defenses and spread the floor with the newest weapons in his arsenal, improved ball control, and an effective outside shot. Ravitz shined as the team's leading three-point shooter on the season.

But the Senior was more than just a threat on each end of the floor. “I tried to be a good role model for the younger guys on and off the floor,” said Ravitz. “I try to contribute in every facet of the game, and that includes picking up my teammates, and my friends.”

Ravitz, in part, credits his early commitment to Franklin and Marshall basketball for his successful season. “It helped me because it was one less distraction,” said Ravitz. “Most seniors are worried about college in the first semester of senior year, but I was able to focus on the season.”

The senior’s stellar individual performance throughout the 2016-2017 campaign culminated in his selection to the NJ North-South All-Star team. The All-Star game is slated for March 19 a Rider University. Ravitz is the first Miller selected to the All-Star exhibition since Joey Kizel in 2010, who now plays professionally in Israel.

Ravitz’s historic senior year wraps up a stunning high school career. In his three years at the varsity level he piled up 858 points and cemented his name in Millburn boys basketball lore for years to come.
