EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick Police Department announced on Monday that another drowning occurred in the township on Independence Day. The tragic event followed close on the heels of a similar pool accident in the township that took the lives of three family members on June 22.

Police responded to a home on Sandalwood Drive for a four-year-old drowning victim at on the Fourth of July at 5:13 p.m. While officers were responding, police dispatch were advised that the child was out of the pool, but unresponsive. Upon the officer’s arrival, CPR was being performed on the child by the homeowner.

Officers, along with Robert Wood Johnson EMS, took over CPR and transported the young boy to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, utilizing a police escort. The investigation revealed the preschooler fell into the pool during a kindergarten graduation party. When adults realized the four-year-old was missing, a family member spotted the child at the bottom of the in-ground pool.

The initial investigation determined that the incident was captured on video and was not suspicious according to a statement issued by the East Brunswick Police Department. The boy remained on life support at Robert Wood University Hospital following the incident until the Middlesex County Medical Examiner reported that the child succumbed to his injuries. His death occurred on Sunday, July 5. No additional details were released by the East Brunswick Police Department.
