Area Farms to Find the Perfect Tree


NEW JERSEY - 'Tis the weekend for holiday tree buying. This weekend is an extremely popular one for those folks that decorate real trees to celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday. Okay, so the projected 60 degree temperatures for today and Sunday don't exactly scream December. It's more likely to be a beach and flip flop day then a boot and mitten one. However, regardless of the temps, there are great trees to be had. Many local tree farms are open for business and ready to sell the perfect holiday tree so you can deck the halls for Santa.

  • Barclay's Tree Farm on 35 Orchardside Drive in Cranbury is open from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on weekends though December 19. They have more than 1,000 trees including Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, Douglas Fir and Fraser Fir. Visitors can choose and cut their own. Barclay's only accepts cash or checks. No credit or debit cards.
  • Giamarese Farms on 135 Fresh Ponds Road in East Brunswick is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. through December 24. Choose and cut your own tree from 300 trees that include Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, Douglas Fir, Concolor Fir and Fraser Fir. Bring your own saw or use theirs. 
  • Griffin's Christmas Trees on 190 Fresh Ponds Road in South Brunswick is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekends through December 22. They have 3,000 trees that include Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, White Pine, Douglas Fir, Concolor Fir, Fraser Fir and Canaan Fir. You can choose and cut your own or pick from a selection of pre-cut trees. Griffin's only accepts cash or check. If paying by check, remember to bring a driver's license.They don't accept credit or debit cards. There is a $5 off coupon of a purchase of a tree costing $40 or more located on their website.
  • Habiak Farms on 315 Deans Rhode Hall Road in South Brunswick is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekends through December 19. They have 500 trees including Blue Spruce, Normay Spruce, White Pine and Douglass Fir.
  • Lantier Christmas Tree Farm on 163 Dey Grove Road in Monroe is open daily from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. They have a selection of 3,000 trees that includes Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, Douglas Fir and Fraser Fir. Visitors can choose and cut their own or select from a collection of pre-cut trees.
  • Simonson Farms on 118 Dey Road in Cranbury is open from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekends through December 23. They have a wide selection of more than 2,000 trees that include Norway Spruce, White Pine, Douglas Fir, Concolor Fir and Canaan Fir. Visitors can either choose and cut their own or pick from a selection of pre-cut trees.

The above farms also include other holiday decorating items such as wreaths, grave blankets and garland to help with decking the halls.
