EDISON, NJ - A wild seventh inning clinched the Spotswood High School varsity baseball teams' fourth win in a row on Monday, April 17. With a 6-4 lead over Bishop Ahr going into the top of the seventh inning, the Chargers scored nine runs to nail down the win and improve their overall season record to 6-2. They are 4-0 in league play.
A four-run second gave Spotswood the lead. However, the Trojans narrowed the gap to within one with a three-run third. Two runs in the sixth for the Chargers gave the team an insurance run, but again Bishop Ahr chipped back adding a run in their next at bat. The Chargers nine-run seventh effectively took the Trojans out of the running to keep their undefeated league record intact.
JT Vento was one-for-four with a big triple. The senior had four RBIs in the game. Matt Vento was two-for-four with three RBIs as was Nick Mohr. Vinnie Guardiola was two-for-two with a double while Sal Mistretta was two-for-three with two RBIs.
Matthew Ciaccio got the win on the mound, pitching five and two-thirds innings and allowing four runs on seven hits. Ciaccio also had three strikeouts in the victory.
The two teams will conclude their home-at-home series today in Spotswood with a 3:45 matchup.
