EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - During the last two weeks the East Brunswick Police Department has taken a number of motor vehicle theft reports. It appears the vehicles that have been targeted are high-end vehicles which include Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Audi and BMW, according to a report issued by the EBPD on Thursday. The common theme for all of these thefts is that the keys or key fobs were left in the vehicles and the vehicles were unlocked.
The East Brunswick Police Department is reminding residents to remember to use the following guidelines to help prevent car thefts:
- Lock doors
- Remove keys from vehicle
- Do not leave spare key in vehicle
- Close windows
- Park in well-lit areas
- Install an alarm system or anti-theft device
- Install a vehicle immobilizer system
- Install a tracking system
- Avoid leaving valuables in vehicles
In the event a car is stolen, contact the police immediately. Car theft victims should be able to identify the year, make, model and color of the car, the license plate number, the vehicle identification number and should remember to notify their insurance company within 24 hours.
