SPOTSWOOD, NJ - In a game that can only be categorized as a war, the Chargers of Spotswood High School football rode the running of Jack Dalrymple and a ferocious defensive performance that included two interceptions to a thrilling 7-3 victory over Point Pleasant Beach on Saturday on the Chargers home field.
Point Pleasant took the opening kickoff and marched down the field, until a goal-line stand left the Garnet Gulls at the 1 yard line, settling for a field goal and an early 3-0 lead. The Chargers then took the ensuing kickoff, and went on a long, sustained drive capped off by a Dalrymple touchdown and a 7-3 lead.
The remainder of the game saw both teams controlling the ball for long drives, each team only having possession four more times, one of the Gulls' drives ending on a Jon Millburn interception. The last drive saw the Gulls bring the ball down to the 1 yard line, but after a Gulls penalty, Chase Fee intercepted a pass to stop the drive, and the Chargers held on for the 7-3 victory. Dalrymple continued his stellar running, gaining 165 yards.
The Chargers are 3-0 for the first time since 2009, and look to continue their winning ways on Friday October 4 at 7:00 P.M., as they visit Highland Park High School.
