EDISON, NJ - Chris Auciello took to the mound in the seventh inning in relief with Spotswood High School holding onto a tight 3-2 lead over Bishop Ahr. With the two outs and the tying run on third, Auciello got the crucial game-ending strikeout to give the Chargers the victory over the Trojans.
Andrew Fuzesi pitched six and two thirds innings to earn the win on the mound. Fuzesi gave up five hits and two runs. One run was earned. The junior walked four and struck out one.
Don Fackina took the loss on the mound for Bishop Ahr, allowing five hits and three runs in five innings.
Spotswood took an early 1-0 lead in the first. The Trojans knotted the score in the second inning. However, the Chargers scored two runs in the fourth to grab a 3-1 lead. Bishop Ahr got one in the seventh to set up Auciello's dramatic finish.
Jt Vento and Dan Newton both had one RBI for Spotswood. Vento also stole two bases. Matthew Ciaccio, Matt Krause and Ryan Szatkowski all scored one run for the Chargers.
John Sheedy hit a double for Bishop Ahr while Austin Brooks went two-for-three with one RBI.
The Chargers will travel to North Brunswick Community Park today to play Robbinsville in the Autism Awareness Baseball Challenge.
