RINGOES, N.J. — In a college reunion of a different kind, the Alumni Tournament of Champions was held at Briarwood at Black river farm on June 3.

It was the seventh annual event that brought together alumni members of the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA).

Like IHSA shows, riders do not bring their own horses, mounts are provided by the host. A random draw determines which horse a rider is assigned. Riders only get a little time to become acquainted with their mount before entering the ring.

Many IHSA shows also offer classes for alumni. At the end of the show year awards are presented to the rider with the highest score who has shown in at least seven shows. Tara Mathews, University of Connecticut was crowned high point champion for 2018. She was followed by Erin Butler, Ball State; Kayleigh Burke, Virginia Tech; Maddie Farlow, Washington College; Emily Byczek, Indiana University and Chelsea Koerper, Delaware Valley College.

Alumni Tournament of Champions western show will be held June 17 at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio.
