COLONIA, NJ - The 2017 softball season has already held some difficult losses for the Spotswood High School varsity softball team. Thursday's loss to Colonia High School was another heartbreaker for the Chargers.
By the second inning, the two teams were locked at 5-5. However, Colonia's Alivia Tavaras-Nemes drove in the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh to give the Patriots the victory, 6-5.
Joey Bartusak went the distance for Spotswood, giving up six runs on 12 hits and striking out one. Her counterpart, Sabrina Tiseo game up five runs on eight hits. Tiseo also went the distance for Colonia, striking out five.
Alyssa Gregor had a double for the Patriots while Caitlyn Hronick smacked a triple. Krista Van Wageninge had the big bat for the Chargers, going two-for-four. Van Wageninge drove in four RBIs for Spotswood. Julie Raba was three-for-four for Spotswood with a double.
The tough loss drops Spotswood's overall season record to 3-4. They are 3-2 in league play. Spotswood will travel to Woodbridge High School on Saturday, April 15 for a 10 a.m. game.
