COLONIA, NJ - With the winds blowing hard Thursday afternoon, the Spotswood High School boys varsity soccer team got bounced from the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament by sixth seeded Colonia High School. Spotswood was the 11th seed in the tournament. The Blue Division champs lost 5-1 to Colonia in the first round after a preliminary round victory over JFK. Colonia moves on to face South Brunswick High School on Saturday.

Chris Moran had the only goal for the Chargers. Andrew Bishara made seven saves while Dan Sosiak stopped seven shots. Pat Fila and Jordan Derkack both had a goal and an assist for Colonia who also had goals from Gabriel Cruz, Julia Cardona and Jose Carrera.

Spotswood returns to regular season action on Monday when the team hosts Perth Amboy High School at 4 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field. The two teams have not played against each other since 2011 when the Chargers won 3-0. Perth Amboy has an overall record of 2-14 while Spotswood is 11-6-1.
