CRANBURY, NJ – A deadly three-car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike Christmas Eve killed a 21-year-old woman from Baltimore, Maryland, and sent five others to the hospital, police said.
According to New Jersey State Police Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams, the accident took place around 8 p.m. Thursday in the northbound outer roadway when a Chevrolet Malibu struck the rear of a Ford Escort in the center lane at milepost 70.6, causing the Escort to hit the guardrail on the left side of the road.
Milagro Aceituno, 21, of Baltimore, was a passenger in the center rear seat of the Escort and was ejected from the vehicle to the roadway, where she was then struck by a Mercury Sable, Williams said.
Aceituno was pronounced dead at the scene around 10:30 p.m., Williams said.
Five other people were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with non-life-threatening injuries, Williams said.
He could not provide further details about the conditions of the injured.
Williams said that the investigation into the accident is continuing and no tickets have been issued as of yet.
