EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – Playhouse 22 presents 1776, running June 10-26. With
music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards, book by Peter Stone, and based on a
concept by Peter Stone, 1776 is a musical based on the signing of the
American Declaration of Independence.

Characters are based real-life signers of the Declaration including John
Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin.  Adams, the
outspoken delegate from Massachusetts, is the central
character and his quest to persuade all 13 colonies to vote for
independence is the central conflict.  1776 first appeared on Broadway
in 1969, earned three Tony Awards, was made into a motion picture in 1972 and
later revived on Broadway in 1997.

The show is directed by Mary Lynn Dobson, with music direction by Raymond
Zipf, and choreography by Jen Hanselman.

All performances are Friday evenings at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and
Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m.

1776 closes out Playhouse 22’s 2015-2016 season.  Cabaret will open
2016-2017 season in September.
