East Brunswick: Heroin Exchange, Car Chase at Mall, OBT

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ -  The East Brunswick Police Department once again interupted an illegal drug exchange in a parking lot in the township.  the original encounter led to a car chase on the Old Bridge Turnpike, culminating in an additional arrest.

On 07/28/16 at approximately 6:25pm, members of the East Brunswick Police Anti-Crime Unit stepped out with a female in the Brunswick Square Mall parking lot after observing a hand-to-hand drug transaction between the female and a male, who was seated in a motor vehicle.

The female, Judith Spear of Old Bridge, NJ, was taken into custody for Possession of Heroin after she walked away from the motor vehicle. The male, later identified as Shabazz Muhammad of Somerset, NJ, fled the scene in a white 2005 Acura after being approached by members of the Anti-Crime Unit.

The Anti-Crime Unit pursued the vehicle onto Routh 18 North via Cindy Way, but the chase was terminated almost immediately due to Muhammad’s erratic and reckless driving.

A short time later, Muhammad was involved in a hit and run accident on Old Bridge Turnpike at the intersection of Parker Street and fled the scene towards Edgeboro Road. Ptl. John Sisolak observed the 2005 white Acura and Muhammad, who was now out of the vehicle on foot, near Brick Plant Road.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Judith Spear was charged with Possession of Heroin; Distribution of Heroin; and Distribution of Controlled Dangerous Substance in a School Zone. She was released pending a court appearance.
