EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ--East Brunswick Public Library on 2 Jean Walling Civic Center Drive is preparing to reopen to the community on September 23 for the first time since closing in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"September 23 is a day that our users and staff have been looking forward to," said library director Melissa Kuzma. "Our customers wish to browse our books, and we provide a  safe way to make that happen."

Services will be limited to borrowing library materials and the use of computers, photocopiers and fax machines. Customers are encouraged to limit their time in the library to less than one hour.

The library will be open to the public on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 p.m .to 8:00 p.m. Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the library will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for seniors and vulnerable populations.

"I'm thrilled to be able to see East Brunswick come back to life after shutting down due to the pandemic," said East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen. "While acting with an abundance of caution, it is wonderful to be able to offer our residents the benefits of our public library. I want to thank all the library staff who have found the most innovative ways to connect with the public and made library services available in our most difficult times."

To maintain everyone's safety, the library will be enforcing mask-wearing and social distancing throughout the building. There will be a building occupancy limit per state guidelines.

Library customers must return items to the book and media drops outside of the building. At this time, the library's meeting rooms will remain closed. Eating and drinking are not permitted. A parent or guardian must accompany children 13 years of age and younger. miEast Brunswick Public Library will be continuing passport services by appointment only and the curbside pickup for library materials.
