East Brunswick: SWAT Team/Anti-Crime Unit Busts 5 for Drugs, Weapon

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Drug arrests were made in town last week as part of an ongoing effort by the East Brunswick Police Department to deter criminal transactions.

Five people were arrested on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 as a result of a narcotics search warrant conducted by the East Brunswick Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit, says a police report issued today. 

With the assistance of the East Brunswick Police Department’s SWAT Team, the search warrant was executed on Dalston Street in the Township in the early morning hours.  During the search, heroin, cocaine and various prescription pills were seized from the residence as well as $5,000 in cash, a stun gun and a rifle.

The target of the two-month investigation, Lazaro Ruiz, a 46-year-old male East Brunswick resident who was renting a room from Michael Rangel, was arrested for possession of heroin, distribution of heroin and possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance in a school zone.

Also arrested were the following:

Samantha Miller, a 32-year-old female from New Brunswick, charged with possession of heroin, distribution of heroin and possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance in a school zone.  

Angelica Nicastro, a 29-year-old female from Clifton (originally from East Brunswick), charged with possession of heroin, distribution of heroin and possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance in a school zone.  

Michael Rangel, a 29-year-old male from East Brunswick, charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia and

Phillip Painter, a 31-year-old male from Staten Island, charged with possession of heroin and possession of a hypodermic syringe.

Ruiz, Miller and Nicastro were transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in lieu of $100,000 bail.  Rangel had bail set at $100,000 with a 10 percent option and was able to post bail.  Painter was released on his own recognizance.
