Edison EMT Charged With Sexually Assaulting Minor

EDISON, NJ – A township EMT is facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor under the age of 16, officials said Monday.

In a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, officials said Christopher P. McHugh, 21, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, is charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child under the age of 16, a second and third degree crimes respectively.

Police said that McHugh works full time as an EMT for Stress Free Medical Transportation in Edison and also is a volunteer with the Morgan First Aid Squad in Sayreville.

According to police, McHugh met and exchanged information with the minor victim through the Facebook social media site and allegedly committed the assault on Aug. 17.

Police did not release details about the age and gender of the victim in the case.

McHugh, wearing his Morgan First Aid Squad shirt, was arrested and charged the next day by Detective Daniel Ellmyer of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Felix De La Cruz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, police said.

McHugh is currently jailed at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick while bail is set, police said.

Police said the investigation is active and is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Ellmyer of the Sayreville Police Department at (732) 525-5450 or Detective De La Cruz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4499.
