EDISON, NJ – Police on Thursday identified the man killed when steel scaffolding accidentally collapsed Sunday.
Police said that New Brunswick resident Julio Perez, 36, was working as a laborer at the NU World Beauty Supply warehouse in the Heller Industrial Park on Mill Road at 4:11 p.m. Sunday when a piece of steel scaffolding collapsed, killing him.
According to police, witnesses told investigators that Perez was one of several laborers disassembling the scaffolding when the accident took place.
The other workers were able to move out of the way and were not injured in the accident, police said.
Police said they withheld Perez’s identification until Thursday due to locating his wife and other relatives living in Guatemala.
Edison police, firefighters, paramedics from JFK Medical Center, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and representatives from OSHA attended the accident scene, police said.
