HELMETTA, NJ - A Sunday morning fire disrupted the quiet calm of a sunny weekend morning today. Fire broke out at a Main Street home in the borough at around 10:30 a.m. on June 17, destroying the garage and pool house. The blaze also forced road closures in the area as firefighters worked to contain the fire.

Firefighters from the Helmetta Volunteer Fire Department as well as firefighters from the Spotswood, Jamesburg, Monroe and East Brunswick Fire Departments were on the scene to combat the blaze, which sent smoke wafting into neighboring communities. Officers from the Spotswood Police Department were on the scene in addition to EMS, the Middlesex County Hazmat unit and the Office of Emergency Management.

“Kudos to the Helmetta Volunteer Fire Department, Spotswood Police and EMS, Emergency Management and our neighboring agencies,” Helmetta Mayor Chris Slavicek said. “It was admirable to be on site and witness the incredible efforts of these first responders to contain the fire to avoid further damage. I know first hand the family is extremely grateful for the rapid response and attention. The most important part is that no one was injured. “

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
