HELMETTA, NJ - As a lifelong resident of Helmetta, Mayor Chris Slavicek is running unopposed in the upcoming 2019 mayoral election on Tuesday, November 5. The popular borough mayor is also affectionately known as Mr. Chris to Appleby School students past and present since Slavicek has directed the annual fifth grade play for the last 18 years. He first decided to run for the office of mayor back in 2015, defeating then incumbent mayor, Nancy Martin.

"I decided to initially seek election in 2015 with the sole intention and desire in making even a small difference to the betterment of my hometown," Slavicek explained. "Helmetta has provided an invigorating upbringing to me personally and I feel blessed to be able to strive for success in providing the same ripple effect to the residents."

"A hands-on leader, I take great pride in being active in the community," Slavicek continued. "In addition to my strong commitment to our beautiful community in my role as mayor, I am the President of my Homeowners Association, tenured Appleby School Drama Director for 18 years within the Spotswood Board of Education, board member of the Spotswood Education Foundation, life member of the Spotswood Parent Teachers Association, active supporter of the Spotswood PBA and Alzheimer's New Jersey. I recently was named Executive of the Year through Longtree & Associates in the NJ Healthcare professional network."

Slavicek's commitment to the community involves having an open door to residents. He holds Mayor's Hourse every Wednesday evening for borough residents with issues or concerns. Throughout his four year term, he's hosted events like an August pizza party when the borough's power went out, snowmen building contests in the winter and this week's upcoming bonfire and hayrides to bring the small town together.

Since Helmetta shares the school district as well as police and emergency services with next door neighbor Spotswood, Slavicek is a mainstay at many school and community events there too all while being the Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Chelsea Senior Living. Slavicek works to oversee 22 independent living, assisted living and memory care communities throughout New Jersey and New York with the goal of delivering superior customer service and quality care to the aging population in both states.

On Election Day, Slavicek is seeking a second term as Helmetta's mayor and is running unopposed. He announced his re-election bid back in June on Primary Day.

"I seek re-election as I have a strong desire to continue to enhance the services in the community I wholeheartedly respect and am proud to call my hometown," Slavicek said. "It has been a pleasure engaging with so many families, friends and neighbors through community connection. It is important for me to be at 'the helm' of facilitating special events and programs that bring us together in an environment that fosters togetherness and sense of community pride equating to our motto of 'small town, big heart!'"

"Throughout my first term as mayor, I have focused on revitalizing our community in many different aspects," Slavicek said. "The ultimate goal was to enhance services, programs and beautification with fiscal responsibility being a priority. This I feel has been accomplished with the support of the governing body. A municipal tax decrease supports these efforts."

Slavicek is looking forward to another four years in office in the town he loves.

"The emphasis for 2020 is to continue these obligations and also focus on the enhancement and integration of technology and its benefits to the borough and residents," Slavicek said when asked what he was hoping to accomplish in his second term.

He is endorsing two of the borough's current councilmen who are also seeking re-election on November 5. Ronald Dzingleski and Joseph Reid are both running for re-election to the Helmetta Borough Council. Their council seats carry a three year term.

"I personally thank the residents and professional partners and providers who believe and support my vision," Slavicek added.
