HELMETTA, NJ - Borough residents may need to pull out the flashlights as the power outage impacting the area because of the remnants of Tropical Storm Isaias. Multiple downed trees and power lines have turned out the lights in parts of many Middlesex County towns including Helmetta, Spotswood, Milltown, South Brunswick and East Brunswick. Helmetta Mayor Chris Slavicek let impacted borough residents know via his Facebook page that they should prepare for a multi-day outage according to an update from JCP&L. The update said utility crews are unable to work in buckets to repair damaged lines when wind speeds exceed 35 miles per hour.

Customers should report power outages to JCP&L by telephoning 888-544-4877 or by texting OUT to 544487. JCP&L states that resident should remember to treat any low-hanging or downed power line as dangerous and report it by telephoning 888-544-4877. The update also said that as soon as the weather calms down, crews will begin addressing the situation.
