SPOTSWOOD,NJ - Normally this time of year, the Spotswood PTA is busy organizing a pie patch to give thanks to the teachers and staff of the Schoenly, Appleby, Memorial Middle and Spotswood High Schools. The tradition began in November 2017. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Spotswood PTA is asking residents to give the joy of baking to others during this holiday season in honor of the Spotswood School District's teachers and staff. Instead of pies, the PTA is asking for donations of baking materials to stock the shelves of the Alice's CUP Food Pantry on Main Street. Alice's CUP assists any Middlesex County resident in need including many area families.
Bins will be located outside the Schoenly, Appleby and Memorial Schools to collect donations. Donations can be dropped off at the three schools from now through December 16. Suggested items include:
- All types of sugar (dark brown, light brown, cane, confectionary)
- Ready-made pie crusts
- Cake mix
- Muffin mix
- Brownie mix
- Non-perishable cookie mix
- Baking Spray
- Baking morsels (chocolate chips)
- Vegetable oil
- Pie fillings
Monetary donations can also be made by heading over to the Spotswood PTA's new online store and clicking on the donation icon. Be sure to include "joy of baking" to ensure the donated funds go towards purchasing baking goods for the food pantry. Cash and check donations are also accepted. Checks should be made payable to the Spotswood PTA. For questions and additional information, email the Spotswood PTA at email@example.com.
