NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – A Middlesex County jury convicted Michael Doce, 36, of the Colonia section of Woodbridge on Tuesday for his role in convincing a man to beat Edison resident Kelvin Dumo to death in Sayreville in 2011, officials said.

According to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, jurors returned the guilty verdict for murder and conspiracy to commit murder following an eight-week trial in front of Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves.

Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Vincent Vitale and Assistant Prosecutor Kristen Pridgen presented evidence and testimony during the trial that proved Doce convinced Edison resident Daniel F. Medaglia, 32, to kill Dumo, 28, by beating him to death on Nov. 6, 2011.

Police were alerted to the crime when Dumo’s body was discovered at Viking Terminal on Jernee Road in Sayreville, the release said.

An autopsy revealed that Dumo died of blunt force trauma to the head and that the manner of death was homicide, the release said.

An investigation by Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Sgt. Michael Daniewicz and Detective Douglas Sprague determined that Doce discussed the murder with Medaglia before the killing, leading to his arrest.

Medaglia pleaded guilty to his role in the crime and will face a 30-year prison terms under an agreement with the prosecutor’s office, according to the release.

Doce is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 18 and will likely be required to spend the next 30 years in prison, the release said.

Another co-defendant, Ryan Morrell, 35, of Dunellen, was charged with hindering apprehension for driving Medaglia from the crime scene and is facing a probationary term, the release said.
