SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Sophomore Kirti Craig had two goals and one assist in the Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team's 4-1 victory over Calvary Christian on Thursday. Mandee Mendez had one goal and two assists while Kaylee Leonard chipped in a goal and Laci Brown earned an assist. The win stopped a two game slide that followed a 12 game unbeaten streak for the Chargers. Julia Masucci made 10 saves for Spotswood and her counterpart Angie Barbosa stopped 14 shots. Kristina Akselsen scored the lone goal for Old Bridge's Calvary Christian.
Spotswood travels to North Brunswick High School on Saturday morning for a 10 a.m. game on Spotswood High School's Homecoming Day. The Chargers have won the last three meetings between the two teams. North Brunswick is 10-4-1 on the season.
Spotswood nabbed the 13th seed in the upcoming Greater Middlesex County Girls Soccer Tournament. East Brunswick High School is the number one seed. The Chargers are set to play Piscataway High School in the first round. Piscataway is the fourth seed in the tournament. First round games begin on Monday, October 14. Piscataway is 4-8-1 this season with a 3-5-1 record in the GMC's Red Division. Spotswood is 10-2-2 in the GMC's Blue Division.
