SPOTSWOOD, NJ - With four days remaining until Thanksgiving and 33 until December 25, the holiday buzz is in the air with many already adorning their homes with decorations. Before the official seasonal insanity sets in, mark the calendars for those annual events that are a don't miss.

Spotswood's annual tree lighting that is sponsored by the Spotswood Recreation Department will take place on Saturday, December 5. Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Municipal Complex on 77 Summerhill Road. The ceremony begins at 5:15 p.m. The rain date for the tree lighting will be Sunday, December 6.

This year's event will include performances from the SHS Festivus Brass Choir and the Schoenly School Chorus. There will also be a special presentation to the Spotswood High School girls soccer team for their impressive season, the Chargers varsity football team that claimed the GMC Blue Division Championship for the second year in a row as well as the SHS cheerleading squad.

Residents can enjoy crafts, games and giveaways from area businesses and some sweet treats too. Of course, the big guy in red will make an appearance.

Another annual event that always gets the kids racing to the windows and front doors is Santa's ride around town on one of the Spotswood Fire Department's trucks. Santa will be accompanying the fireman to say hello to kids on Saturday, December 19.

This yearly tradition is provided by the Spotswood Recreation and Fire Departments. Kids should start listening for the sound of sirens at around 9 a.m. Santa will be stopping by fire hydrants on local streets with an early surprise or two ahead of his big trip on December 24.
