SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Mary Beth Barnosky and Savannah Robinson both turned in strong games to help pace the Spotswood High School girls varsity basketball team to their first victory of the 2016-17 season over Carteret High School, 52-14. It was head coach Jill Hetzler's first game back after last season's absence due to the birth of her daughter and the game also marked a stellar performance by the Chargers' defense.

After edging out the Ramblers at the end of the first quarter, 9-7, the Chargers defense came on, keeping Carteret off the board. The Spotswood defense held Carteret to only four points in the second quarter and three in the fourth. They were kept completely off the scoreboard in the third quarter.

Barnosky was the top point getter for the Chargers, netting 16 while Robinson scored 13. The sophomore also scored three three-pointers in the win. The Chargers will play their first road game on the season on Monday, December 19 with an away game against the rival Rams. The game at South River High School begins at 7 p.m.
