SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Matt Vento put 26 points up on the board in the Spotswood High School boys varsity basketball team's lopsided 75-48 victory over John F. Kennedy Memorial High School yesterday. Vinnie Guardiola put up another double digit performance, netting 19 for the Chargers while Abdullah Nieskens added 14. The senior has 159 points in the team's first 11 games, averaging 14 points a game. Vento has 168 points thus far this season and is averaging 15 points a game.
Spotswood held JFK to only eight first quarter points, taking a 10-point lead into the halftime break. The Chargers outscored the Mustangs by 17 points in the second half to nail down the victory that moved the team above .500. David Silva netted 19 points for the Mustangs while Rohan Chakke added 11.
Spotswood will have a couple of practice days before taking on one of their biggest rivals on Wednesday, January 17. The Chargers will face South River High School at the Spotswood High School Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The Rams have a 4-4 overall record and are 2-4 in division play. Spotswood is 3-4 in conference play this season.
